Moonlight Masquerade: 2 Headliners Announced!

After the first successful installation of Moonlight Masquerade last year, we're very excited to be moving forward with plans on this year's event. We'll be periodically announcing our headlining artists and we're so excited that we can't wait any longer for the first announcement. So! With over 130 remixes to his name—including tracks by Madonna (“Miles Away”), Katy Perry (“I Kissed A Girl”), Tegan & Sara (“Back In Your Head”), and La Roux (“Bulletproof”)—Morgan Page has earned a solid reputation for transferring insatiable pop energy to the dance floor in the form of banging, progressive house tracks. Krewella is an electro group from Chicago comprised of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf joined by producer Rain Man. Portland ranked #3 for best music scene

Forget that the ranking focuses mainly on our well-known indie rock scene. Portland has a vibrant nightlife that did factor into the ranking in Livability.com's list of the top scenes in the country. And, personally, we feel that the rising electronic scene here is a huge part of that. And that means that YOU, you crazy party animals, you, are a factor in this city's overall awesomeness. It's nice for Portland to get some recognition on just how darned cool it is, but honestly, we're not quite sure why we didn't make #1...

DJs! Win a chance to play Nocturnal Wonderland in Texas!

Insomniac Productions, the team responsible for some of the largest parties in the country, such as Electric Daisy Carnival (come on, you've all heard of them), is giving all of you worthy, and possibly unworthy, DJs the opportunity to do an opening set at this year's Nocturnal Wonderland in Texas. All you have to do for consideration is upload a 30-minute set, tag it properly, upload your track-list, and get over 100 plays to be considered on the "short list" (though I'm personally suspicious that short list might grow to be a pretty large list after word spreads -- make your mix count!). Spring Fever

We've just received four inches of snow in the Portland area in the middle of March, yet all we can think about is a return of the sun. Ever try handing out flyers outside of an event in the rain? Portland has a new community radio station, KZME, broadcasting on 107.1fm, featuring all local music! What does this mean for you? Well, we'll tell you! Naughty or Nice w/ Morgan Page and Not-So-Nice Lines

Dear Fans,

Red Cube & Ground Breaking Events (G.B.E.) would like to sincerely apologize to those of you who had to wait in line for so many hours this past Saturday, and to those who were unable to get in to the event.

The event was not over-sold. At about 11:30 p.m., prior to Morgan Page's set, the main room had filled to over-capacity, while space was still available in other areas of the venue, such as the 2nd room. Due to this scenario, and to protect the safety of the attendees, the security team made the decision to not allow entry for a time. Despite our attempts to argue this decision, they were pretty firm. It was very frustrating for all of us involved, but we also ultimately must consider the safety of our patrons. There were 300 tickets that were allotted to be available at the door, but we were only able to sell about 100 of these due to the circumstances. Fifty more ticket-holders were allowed entry, and a few more cash buyers. Later in the night, we were eventually able to allow those who remained at the door entry into the event.

The refund process has already begun. For those of you who purchased tickets, but were not able to get into the event, please contact Flavor.US for your refund. We will review our will-call records, which indicate who did get entry, and will approve those refunds promptly.

We would also love the opportunity to make this up to those of you who were not able to gain access to the event with your advance tickets by offering free tickets to our New Year's Eve event and, if you are over 21 years of age, free access to our event featuring Dillon Francis this Thursday night at Whiskey Bar. If you purchased a physical ticket, are in possession of your ticket, and plan on attending our New Year's Eve event, you may present your ticket that has not been torn at the box office and you will be given 2 free entries per ticket.

Luck of the Dragon: 8 years of fun, music, passion, and love!

From the very beginning, back at that first Red Cube event in August of 2003, our main mission has remained consistent:

Red Cube strives to provide a positive, safe, and special gathering of energetic, creative, and expressive people that join together for the common love of music and the release of negativity and emotional toxins through the enjoyment of that music. Our events aim to be a momentary escape from the day-to-day world where shared smiles, dance, and the closeness of important people in your life combine to create unforgettable memories.

We wanted this video to not focus on the events themselves, but instead to act as a reminder of these goals and how we’ve worked to accomplish those in the 8 years that we have been organizing and promoting more than 200 events in the city that we so love. This video is a reflection of your success, of your love of music and the people around you. We feel that there is nothing ordinary about the events that we’ve poured our hearts into; they’re a shared experience between all of us of love, friendship, family, respect, and, of course, the music. The Red Cube family would like to share our great appreciation, love, and thanks to each of you for being with us these past 8 years. Holy Busy Week, Batman

We love what we do, but honestly, that was one heck of a few days. Steve Angello, Rusko, and Chase & Status, all within 6 days of each other definitely validates those grey hairs we've been seeing more and more of. But we would like to take a moment and a modicum of internet space to thank all of you for making those efforts well spent, and making those shows a (judging from all of your energy) resounding success. Last we heard, the staff at the Roseland is still cleaning the sweat from the walls...

Those of you that were at the Steve Angello show early enough may have noticed a bit of a delay in getting music going. So that you don't come to the conclusion that we're a bunch of teases, we thought you'd like to know that this was due to some technical issues with the monitors and getting them dialed in to the Roseland's sound. Obviously we prefer to have all that sorted before opening the doors for the night, but we were forced to make a last minute change in the sound that was there, which led to some complications. But we appreciate not just your patience as we worked through that, but also the patience and skill of Red Cube DJs Gabe Driscoll and Jamie Meushaw for being able to lay down some ruckus without monitors. You didn't notice, which just means that they're that good.

We'd also like to thank everyone else who busted their tales in getting the word out for those three great nights, and those that brought the talent to the tables. We're damned proud to have you a part of our Red Cube family and are sorry to say in the most clingy, stalker-boyfriend/girlfriend way that we're not letting you get away. You're ours. (insert creepy, maniacal laugh here)

But stick around, people. We've got all sorts of awesomeness coming up in the next few months (read, Laidback Luke, Donald Glaude, Freq Nasty, Borgore, Andy C, and other nastiness that'll make you feel the way that'd make your momma blush).

And if you haven't heard of him, we're wondering if this post is even for you. Perhaps you prefer to spend your nights at Dixie? Which is totally cool by us -- that leaves more of those precious pre-sales to those who'll be practically drooling on themselves to get them. And we know you'll be drooling, friends. Naughty-or-Nice: Thanks for making this a success!

Saturday night's joint venture with Ground Breaking Events (GBE), Naughty-or-Nice, at the Bohemia Warehouse, was a huge success. We were grateful to see so many smiling, dancing, sweaty bodies in one place, and we can't thank you all enough for your support.

In a continued effort to keep much of our event practices transparent, and to further encourage dialogue with those who attend our events, we've made a few notes regarding the event.

In taking into consideration feedback and lessons that we learned with our last event, we made efforts to organize the lines a little better this time around. Per many of your request (and the obvious logic they held) we originally set up two lines: one for will-call and another for entry being purchased at the door. Unfortunately, Portland did what it does best and let loose a steady rain that encouraged many of you to seek shelter under the tent, thereby losing the lines and confusing the situation. Despite regulations preventing us from expanding the lines into the street, in an effort to expedite entry and resolve the uncomfortable situation of the rain, we put ourselves on the line and opened another will-call station in the street.

Unfortunately, some of you were not able to make it in to the event. The event was a popular one, and selling out was inevitable. We encourage you to purchase advance tickets to future events. You want to come in and be a part of the events. And we want you there too!

Drinking plenty of water is a good thing! And, boy, did you all drink plenty of it! Next time, there will be more to go around.

We also appreciate your understanding of the necessity of a security pat-down. This ensures your safety and that Red Cube, as well as GBE, are able to continue to offer you quality events in the future.

Thanks again to all of you who came out to make this event such a positive success. We're looking forward to next year, with 2011 already filling up with great shows.

With 2011 already shaping up to be a great year for electronic music in Portland, we here at Red Cube HQ are excited to add on to the list of shows the Grammy-nominated, hugely popular, Morgan Page at Aura Nightclub on Friday, February 11th, 2011. With remixes for Madonna, La Roux, Katy Perry, and Tegan & Sara, as well as wholly underground original stormers under his belt, Morgan is a name largely recognized as being not only boundary-breaking, but just utter quality. This will be his first Portland, OR appearance, and we're happy to be the ones to bring him to you. To warm up the dance floor, we were able to convince (more like, we gave in to repeated begging) Red Cube residents, and local favorites, Gabriel Driscoll and Evan Alexander to combine their talents for a crowd-pleasing tag set.
